how a business offsets carbon emissions

Cleaning the Air We Breathe

Producing nearly 2,000 tons of CO2, the Industry sector contributed to 23% of greenhouse gas emissions in 2019.

.

What is the Industry sector and how does it contribute to greenhouse gas emissions?

The Industry sector can be described as the companies and businesses that provide the goods and raw materials each of us use everyday. From the shirt you wear to the food you eat, it all falls under the same sector when it comes to the environment.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the carbon emissions contributed by the Industry sector can be divided into two forms:

Direct Emissions

This type of emissions is defined as the burning of fossil fuels that occur at the factory or company site and are needed for machine equipment used in the production of transforming raw materials into goods for consumers.

Indirect Emissions

This type of emissions is defined as the burning of fossil fuels that occur offsite at power plants that provide factories and companies with energy, like electricity, needed for production.

In 2019, the Industry sector made up 23% of total greenhouse gas emissions making it the third leading contributor of emissions behind transportation and electricity. As seen in the graph above, nearly 2,000 tons of CO2 emissions were released into the air by the Industry sector alone.

Despite overall Industry emissions have decreased by roughly 16% since 1900, there is still a lot of progress to be made in this innovative day and age.

What does it mean to offset carbon emissions and how is Wildway working to move this initiative forward?

Offsetting carbon emissions is a great way to promote carbon neutral shipping. Carbon neutral means to put out a "net zero amount of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere". As we know, greenhouse gases are harmful to the atmosphere by contributing to global warming.

When you check off the box to offset carbon emissions at checkout, you are helping us to remove an equal amount of CO2 emissions created for us to ship your order. Just a few cents goes a long way in helping the environment!

Since September of 2020, our customers have helped us to offset over 130,000lbs of CO2 emissions that would have otherwise been released to further pollute the atmosphere. To put it into perspective, this is equivalent to saving over 10,200 trees.

Why should you choose to offset carbon emissions at checkout?

With so many ways to save the environment, it can be overwhelming knowing where to start. By choosing to go carbon neutral with your Wildway order, you're getting a head start in becoming an environmental advocate for minimal effort.

It only costs you a couple of cents to offset the carbon emissions created for us to ship you your Wildway goodies. Currently, roughly 8% of our customers choose to offset the carbon emissions of their orders. Imagine if that number was even 50% how much good we could do for the atmosphere!

We believe every penny counts when it comes to bettering our outdoor playground and we hope you'll join us in the fight to reduce our environmental impact in every way possible.
